CALL Normilasation ~

The Possiblity of Reaching Bax’s Normilasation in our national context: Why is it possible? When is it possible? How will it be possible?

The computer can serve a variety of uses for language teaching. It can be a tutor which offers language drills or skill practice; a stimulus for discussion and interaction; or a tool for writing and research. With the advent of the Internet, it can also be a medium of global communication and a source of limitless authentic materials. Warschauer, M. (1996)

Bax points out that to achieve the CALL normalization, First, we have to change our ideas about computers and its software. We must put on our mind that CALL is a normal thing, and should not be afraid of it. Also, we have to correct the idea that the technology will solve the problem by itself. We must consider the other key factors like software, technology beside CALL to achieve integration.

By doing the things below, CALL normalization in Saudi educational institutions can be possible:

•   Bax says that "Computers should be in different shape and size", In my point view, if computers became very small with interesting design like cell phones, it will be helpful and easy to carry around.

•  Teachers must focus more on using computers in teaching rather than books.

•   Using computers everyday as a main part of the lessons. Also make the students use the computer in their houses or library everyday by giving them homeworks and assignments that make them search on internet to solve it.  

•   Teachers should encourage the students to be creative and innovative and not to be fear.

•   Students should know that there are other uses of computers more than just the entertainment and social contacts.
